Italian Business, Retailers' Confidence Rise, Sentiment Drops In Services Sector

The confidence indicator for the business sector rose to 69.3 in June from revised 68.8 in May. Meanwhile, economists had forecast a reading of 70. The think tank said the increase in the index was mainly due to improvement in the assessments on the current state of demand and production.

Similarly, sentiment among retailers rose in June after a slight decline in the previous month. The corresponding indicator climbed to 98.5 from last month's revised reading of 94.7.

However, service sector confidence dropped in June due to worsening expectations about orders. The sentiment indicator fell to minus 12 from minus 6 in May.

In the construction sector, confidence returned to the level last seen in February with the indicator rising to 74.9 in May from 71.3 in April.
