RTTNews - Italian retail sales rose 0.1% month-on-month in March following revised 0.9% contraction in February, statistical office Istat said Friday. Meanwhile, economists had forecast a 0.2% decline.

On an annual basis, sales fell 5.2%, quicker than a revised 4.7% decline in the previous month and a 0.9% drop economists expected. Sales at large retail stores fell 4.8%, while small and medium retailers recorded 5.4% fewer sales in March compared to the previous year.

Total sales of food products were down 5.6% and non-food products slide 5.1%.
