Italy's consumer price index, or CPI, including tobacco rose 1.3% year-on-year in April, slightly quicker than a 1.2% growth seen in March, a provisional report from the statistical office Istat showed Thursday. Economists had forecast the rate of inflation to slow to 1.1%.

On a monthly basis, the CPI climbed 0.3% following 0.1% increase in the previous month.

The harmonized index of consumer prices grew 0.6% month-on-month in April after rising 1.2% in March. Meanwhile, the HICP annual inflation was stable at 1.1%.
