Apple has pushed out a new version of iTunes to users. iTunes 12.7.2 promises performance improvements to the app despite being a minor update.

This Wednesday, Apple begun rolling out a new update for iTunes for Mac machines. The minor update focuses on under-the-hood changes, but Apple did not specify them. Even the release note for the update is pretty short and general that it doesn’t indicate anything about the changes save for “minor app and performance improvements.”

Despite not bringing significant changes, users are still encouraged to update to the latest version of iTunes because bug fixes come as standard with every update. To update to iTunes 12.7.2, users should download the software over the air using the Software Update mechanism. The command to download is found in the Updates tab of the Mac App Store.

The release of iTunes 12.7.2 comes more than a month after version 12.7.1 was rolled out to the public in October. Meanwhile, Apple launched iTunes 12.7 back in September. According to the tech giant, the new iTunes iterations are focused mainly on media content such as music, movies, TV shows, podcasts and audiobooks, as per Apple Insider.

The biggest change that Apple implemented with iTunes 12.7 is the removal of the iOS App Store from iTunes. This makes it impossible for users to sync and download iOS apps through the desktop media hub. Even without the iOS App Store, iTunes continues to serve as a hardware management interface for syncing and backing up iOS 11 devices.

Interestingly, Apple’s carrier partners and select companies can still have the option to use iTunes to install apps on their devices. Apple is providing them iTunes 12.6.3, which still has the built-in iOS App Store intact and provides the ability to download ringtones from iTunes Store, according to iDownloadBlog.

The latest iTunes update was released hours after Apple seeded macOS High Sierra 10.13.2 to users of MacBooks and Mac devices. The new macOS update improves the compatibility of Mac computers with third-party USB audio devices, the compatibility of Braille displays with Apple’s Mail app and VoiceOver navigation when viewing PDF documents in Preview.
