Although Season 3 of “iZombie” will premiere with both Liv (Rose McIver) and Major (Robert Buckle) being single, it seems unlikely that the exes will get back together as a couple in the new installment.

In a recent interview with Yahoo TV, McIver implied that Liv and Major won’t be rekindling their romance anytime soon. “Liv and Major love each other so much,” the Kiwi actress said. “But they also have been pushed and pull in such strange ways so it’s not simple to recover from that kind of trauma in a relationship. So it’s a tough journey.”

McIver added that viewers, about halfway in Season 3, will “get introduced to somebody who certainly catches Liv’s eyes,” and that mystery man prevents any potential romantic reconciliation between Liv and Major for a while.

McIver told TVLine in May that she thinks Liv and Major are each other’s endgame. “I hope Liv and Major end up together. I think they are a great couple. I’m all about them,” McIver said. “But I love that they’re friends first.”

“It’s a really complicated thing,” McIver said of the idea of Liv and Major rekindling their romance. “She’s grieving two dead boyfriends. It’s not that easy to jump straight back in with Major. But I think ultimately they're really great for each other, and ... they love each other.”

Following Liv’s breakup with Major, the assistant medical examiner dated Lowell (Bradley James) in Season 1, and subsequently had a relationship with Drake (Greg Finley) in Season 2. Meanwhile, Major had a fling with his Max Rager colleague Gilda (Leanne Lapp), a.k.a. Rita, last season.

It’s unclear whether Major will also get a new love interest in Season 3. But either way, Major has a lot in his plate. Not only is he getting a new job with Fillmore Graves, he also continues his mission of finding Natalie — the suicidal zombie escort who went missing from the Max Rager vaults in Season 2 finale.

“That’s a storyline from last year I loved,” Buckley told TVLine. “It is something that does come back this year. A big part of Major’s quest is [figuring out] what the hell happened to her.”

“iZombie” Season 3, episode 1, titled “Heaven Just Got a Little Smoother,” airs on Tuesday, April 4 at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
