Jack Maxwell has opened up on what life was like after getting diagnosed with cancer. The “Booze Traveler“ also compared the disease to a terrorist, while maintaining that he’s staying positive amid the trial.

Maxwell recently had an exclusive interview with Us Weekly and talked about his battle against a type of blood cancer. The 54-year-old actor and television host revealed that he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma early last year, but he didn’t let the disease get the better of him.

“I didn’t think, ‘This is it,’ or feel bad for myself. I wasn’t going to let that happen to me. It’s not just a psychological ploy I really just was trying to stay positive through the whole thing,” Maxwell said.

The Travel Channel personality went on to say that he got his optimism from his mother and late grandmother. “They taught me to always stay positive and be a good person.” However, he admitted that he was hesitant to inform his mother about his cancer diagnosis at first. “I didn’t want to burden her,” he said.

Though Maxwell is taking his cancer diagnosis in a stride, he couldn’t help but view his condition negatively and even compared it to a terrorist. “Listen, cancer is a terrorist, that’s all. Yes, it kills and it does devastation, but mostly it messes with you.”

The Boston native also revealed that in spite of his battle with cancer, he still continued his work for the fourth run of “Booze Traveler” and didn’t let the disease get in the way. “I’ll handle it, I’ll beat it and I’ll move on. I still have a great life. This just feels more like a speed bump than any kind of brick wall.”

“Booze Traveler,” which is set to start a new season on Dec. 18, premiered in 2014. The show basically features the host traveling the world in search of the different alcoholic beverages people in different cultures drink, as per ABC15.

When he is not busy filming his show, Maxwell is out there doing the things he likes. “I’m out there, I’m doing hikes, I’m trying to do as much as I can. I’ll walk around the block with weights. I’ll get some sun … I don’t let it get me down.”

In a tweet Maxwell posted Tuesday, he revealed that he is currently staying in Arizona because he is being treated for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma there. He also promised his fans that he’ll keep them posted on his progress.
