Things are heating up and the season of American Idol is winding down.

Last night, one of the remaining five contestants was eliminated. The person who received the least amount of votes this week was Jacob Lusk.

The first half hour of the show revolved around host Ryan Seacrest telling the audience that the announcement will be shocking. It also included a bizarre omelet-cooking segment by chef, Gordon Ramsay.

When it got time to announce the results, Lusk was in the bottom two with Lauren Alaina. This was Alaina's first time in the bottom and in fear of elimination, so when Seacrest announced her name she instantly began crying and hiding her face from the camera.

Alaina was lucky, though, because it was Lusk who was sent home.

Lusk's performances on Wednesday were somewhat messy. He first sang No Air which the judges, Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler, did not like very much. During his second performance Lusk sang Love Hurts.

Jackson told Lusk he somewhat redeemed himself with Love Hurts, but it still was not enough to keep him in the running of becoming the next American Idol.

Producer Jimmy Iovine said that Lusk let his nerves get the best of him. If you lose confidence, everyone knows it, he said.

There are four remaining contestants in American Idol. Those contestants are Lauren Alaina, James Durbin, Scotty McCreery and Haley Reinhart.
