Former FBI Director James Comey, who’s maintained a relatively low profile following his dismissal by President Donald Trump in May, appeared in a curious photo that surfaced on a Twitter account to which he is allegedly tied. The photo, which appeared to be taken in Iowa, seemingly showed the former FBI director in sweatpants and running shoes and quickly became the center of Twitter speculation.

“Goodbye Iowa,” the account tweeted with a picture of a man who appeared to be Comey. “On the road home. Gotta get back to writing. Will try to tweet in useful ways.”

The account operates under the name Reinhold Niebuhr — a theologian and political commentator who died in 1971 — and has been the subject of investigations from Gizmodo and the New Yorker, among other outlets. Comey’s association with Niebuhr centers around his senior thesis on the figure during his time at the College of William and Mary. Monday’s post appeared to confirm the theory.

Twitter responded accordingly:

Some, given the significance of the location as well as his attire, speculated that Comey could be hinting at a run for office in 2020.

The account seems to have changed its handle from ProjectExile7 to FormerBu, only fueling rumors that the account does indeed belong to Comey.

FormerBu, which has been active since 2014, had 41,000 followers as of Monday but only followed 29 accounts. The account has seemingly been tweeting from Iowa since Friday. It previously appeared to be tweeting from Gettysburg.
