Aurora, Colo., police denied Monday that they are investigating any possible second person of interest in the massacre at the Century 16 Movie Theater Friday morning.

A Fox affiliate in Denver recently ran a report with information that the police spokeswoman said was taken out of context.

Sources tell FOX31 Denver reporter Justin Joseph that a second man is now a 'person of interest' in the Aurora theater shooting investigation, FOX31 wrote.

But after speaking with an Aurora police spokeswoman, IBTimes quickly discovered the above statement to be false.

An associate of [suspect James] Holmes was interviewed and then released, the spokeswoman said. There is no reason to believe that he is involved.

The mistaken report was apparently provoked by neighbors of the suspect's associate who told the FOX news station that for the past two days there have been SWAT team and police cars in their alley and unmarked cars in street.

He's been there about a year, one neighbor of the associate told FOX31.

In a further development that has not been confirmed nor denied by Aurora PD, sources told the news outlet that someone made either a call or a text from the person of interest's phone threatening violence if James Egan Holmes was not released from jail. The call was what reportedly prompted police to issue an alert to find and detain him.

The man's Facebook page shows he has a master's degree in bio-medical science, Fox 31 reported. Anshutz Medical Center confirms that the person is in their doctorate program, the same program from which Holmes withdrew several months ago.

The Inquisitr is also reporting that one of the witnesses who was present in the theater when Holmes opened fire said the gunman may not have acted alone.

The witness said that it appeared someone may have helped Holmes enter the theater, though it is unclear if it was actually Holmes himself that the witness saw, the news site wrote

As I was sitting down to get my seat, I noticed that a person came up to the front row, the front right, sat down, and as credits were going, it looked like he got a phone call. He went out toward the emergency exit doorway, which I thought was unusual to take a phone call, the unidentified witness said.

After Monday morning's arraignment for prime suspect James Holmes, 18th Judicial District Attorney Carol Chambers said the investigation is still in full effect and has a ways to go.
