The anonymous plaintiff referred to as “Jane Roe” in the Supreme Court’s landmark Roe v. Wade ruling that legalized abortion in 1973, died Saturday at the age of 69. Norma McCorvey suffered a heart failure at an assisted living home in Katy, Texas, reports said.

McCorvey, who was the face for the abortion rights movement in the 1980s after revealing her real name for the cause, made a complete about turn on the issue later in her life, speaking out in support of anti-abortion advocates.

Despite being the name behind the landmark abortion ruling, McCorvey never had the procedure, according to Joshua Prager, a journalist who is writing a book on the case, Reuters reported.

Here are some quotes by the former pro-choice believer, who went on to work against abortion for much of her life:

“I was the Jane Roe of Roe vs. Wade, but Jane Roe has been laid to rest.” — On being Jane Roe of the landmark case.

“I am not a lesbian. I'm just a child in Christ now.” — On her change of identity.

“I could understand a woman making one mistake. I could even understand the woman making the same mistake twice. But half-dozen times? I had to get away from her. I couldn’t stand there and talk to her anymore. ” — On the misuse of choice by a woman who allegedly had five or six abortions.

“The holocaust against the unborn is the greatest sin they could ever do or even ever participate in.” — Comparing abortions to a holocaust.

“Virtually the entire basis for Roe v. Wade was built upon false assumptions. No meaningful trial to determine the real facts was ever held.” — In an affidavit McCorvey submitted to the District Court of New Jersey in 2000.

“I didn’t know during the Roe v. Wade case that the life of a human being was terminated.” — On being misled into being the plaintiff in the case.

“It’s not your body, it’s not your choice, because you got that from God. He gave that to you.” — On faith and abortion after she embraced Christianity.

“I think it’s safe to say that the entire abortion industry is based on a lie… I am dedicated to spending the rest of my life undoing the law that bears my name.” — On her experience working as a pro-choice advocate, which ultimately made her pro-life.
