Jane the Virgin
Will Mateo’s parents Rafael Solano (Justin Baldoni) and Jane Gloriana Villanueva (Gina Rodriguez) ever get back together? The CW

A lot of fans were brokenhearted when Jane Gloriana Villanueva (Gina Rodriguez) ended things with Rafael Solano (Justin Baldoni) in “Jane the Virgin” Season 2 and started things anew with Michael Cordero (Brett Dier). However, things took a sad turn when Michael died in Season 3, leaving Jane a widow. Throughout it all, Rafael maintained his friendship with Jane and supported her with every emotional twist and turn. Now that Jane is ready to start dating again, fans were hopeful that she would rekindle her romance with Rafael.

Alas, the situation does not seem ripe for their reunion since Rafael has fallen back in love with his ex-wife Petra (Yael Grobglas), while Jane only wants a fling. However, Baldoni gave fans some hope that Jane would live happily ever after with Rafael. “There’s a chance they could be endgame,” Baldoni told Hollywood Life of his character and Jane. “But I mean, I don’t know. We’ll see. There’s a few more years left.”

He quickly added, “But at the end of the day, I think the two could very well seem meant to be. They’ve had a lot of challenges, and we’ll see. If it’s what the fans want, then maybe it’s possible. I don’t know what the show creator has in mind.”

Show creator Jennie Snyder Urman is not revealing what her endgame plans are, but she told Entertainment Weekly that the ups and downs of Jane’s romantic life are all part of her big journey. She might have lost the love of her life abruptly, but that does not mean she won’t learn to love again.

“What I want to see in the back half of the series is how she regains some of that optimism, some of that love, and starts to believe in romance again and how it’s different from what she first thought it was, so we’re going to get into that and how does Jane believe in magic again,” she explained.

As for Rodriguez, she said her character might have a tough time falling in love again given her past. Personally, she finds it challenging navigating Jane’s emotional journey. “She’s become… a little cynical,” she said of Jane. “It’s interesting to take this blossoming character that was so full of life, to actually now start having what we can all relate to, what becomes our traumas that start to shape us. Jane was my big first character to live with for this long, but how often do we get to see a show [where] we actually get to see somebody then affected by their traumas and who they become after that?”

For now, she is dating telenovela star Fabian (Francisco San Martin). Jane initially wanted a fling, but she decided to give Fabian a chance after discovering his sweet and thoughtful side. However, their blossoming relationship might be put to a halt when a mysterious guy named Adam (Tyler Posey) returns in Jane’s life.

“Jane the Virgin” Season 3 airs every Monday at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
