Japan released today several economic data that gave mixed signals, where the jobless rate fell to 4.9% in December from previous and expected 5.1%, while the job-to-application ratio remained unchanged at 0.57 from the expected 0.58.

Meanwhile the nationwide consumer price index rose in December to 0.0% from the expected -0.1%, yet lower than the previous reading of 0.1%, as for the yearly CPI that excludes food and energy it fell to -0.7% from the previous -0.9% and the expected -0.5%.

As for the seasonally adjusted retail trade it fell in December to -4.1% from the expected -1.4% and the previous rise of 1.9% that was revised to 2.1%, while on the yearly basis, the index fell by -2.0% from the expected 0.6% and the previous rise of 1.3% revised to 1.5%.
