Japan's auto production plunged 56.2% annually in February to 481,396 units, marking the fifth consecutive month of fall, a report by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association or JAMA said Monday.
During the month, production of passenger cars slipped 57.4%, while those of buses and trucks slumped 51.1% and 47.9% respectively.
Domestic sales of automobiles decreased 24.3% annually in February to 380,582 units, while exports plummeted 63.9% to 212,107 units. The total value of automobiles exported amounted to US$5080.89 million in February, representing a 63.3% fall in value from the same month the previous year.
Meanwhile, production of motorcycles dropped 42.8% year-on-year to 72,719 units in February. Domestic sales dipped 20.3% to 30,442 units, while exports fell 39% to 74,439 units. The total value of motorcycles exported slipped 38.5% year-over-year to US$540.98 million in February.
