RTTNews - Japan's automobile production dropped 41.4% year-on-year in May to 542,282 units, Japan Automobile Manufacturers'' Association or JAMA said Monday. This was the eighth consecutive month of fall in production.

During the month, production of passenger cars fell 40.7%, while those of trucks and buses dipped 45% and 50.2% respectively.

Domestic sales of automobiles stood at 292,043 units in May, down 19% from last year. At the same time, export of automobiles plunged 55.9% to 233,217 units.

Meanwhile, production of motorcycles slipped 40.9% to 41,181 units, representing the 21st month of decline. Factory shipment of motorcycles decreased 27.4%, while the exports fell 45.5%.
