Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda has removed five members of his cabinet in a bid to gain opposition support for a new tax bill.

Noda needs the support of the Liberal Democratic Party to pass the bill, which aims to double sales tax to at least 10 percent by 2015.
