RTTNews - An index measuring tertiary industrial activity in Japan fell a seasonally adjusted 0.1 percent in May compared to the previous month, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said on Thursday, posting an index score of 96.4.

That was sharply lower than analyst expectations that had called for a 0.4 percent monthly gain following the 2.2 percent monthly increase in April.

Components finishing higher were scientific research, technical services, financials, personal services, health care and compound services. Finishing lower were wholesale and retail trade, communications, electricity, accommodations, real estate and goods rental.
