RTTNews - Japan's automobile production dropped 34% year-on-year in June to 683,958 units, the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association or JAMA said Thursday. This is the ninth consecutive month of decline in output.

During the month, production of cars were down 32.7%, while the production of trucks and buses fell 41.9% and 44% respectively.

Domestic sales of automobiles declined 14.5% to 382,285 units, while exports fell 49% to 321,255 units.

For the first half of the year, automobile production dropped 45.2% compared with the same period last year. This comes after eight years of rise in production.

Meanwhile, motorcycles production slipped 42.3% annually in June to 49,403 units. This was the 22nd consecutive month of fall in production. Domestic sales were down 30.3% in June.

For the first half of the year, production of motorcycles slipped 39.2% from the same period last year, to 360,981 units, and marked the third consecutive year of decline.
