Japanese convenience store sales rose 2.0% in the 12 months to February, down five percentage points from January's increase, according to the Japan Franchise Association on Monday.

In a report, the association also noted that total sales increased 4.8%, half of January's annualized gain.

Consumer spending, on the other hand, fell 1.2% over the 12-month period, deepening the 0.4% decline in January. At the same time, consumer traffic rose 6.0%, down from the previous month's annual increase of 10.0%
