RTTNews - Japanese small and medium sized companies' business sentiment improved to 34.1 in May from 30.8 last month, a report from the Shoko Chukin Bank showed Wednesday.

A reading below 50 suggests that pessimists outnumber optimists.

Manufacturing firms' confidence rose 4.9 points to 32.2 in May while non-manufacturer' sentiment climbed 2.1 to 35.6.
