Jeff Bliss’ rant on Thursday gave voice to students, past or present, who have ever felt their teachers were getting up in front of their classrooms just so they could later collect their paychecks, regardless of whether the students in the class were actually retaining any of the information being provided.

The sophomore at Duncanville High School in Texas told off his world-history teacher when he was kicked out of class, Fox4 in Dallas reported. The student criticized his teacher for giving out packets instead of engaging her students in educational conversations.

A student in the classroom recorded Bliss’ diatribe, unbeknownst to the outspoken student: “If you would just get up and teach them instead of handing them a freaking packet, yo. There’s kids in here who don’t learn like that, they need to learn face-to-face.” The now-viral video has been viewed more than 3 million times.

In the video, the teacher remains silent, unwilling to antagonize Bliss, as he continues his rant: “You gotta take this job serious, this is the future of this nation. And when you come in here, like you did last time, and make a statement, about 'Oh, this is my paycheck' -- indeed it is. But this is my country's future, and my education.”

Bliss was later interviewed by WFAA-TV: He said that although he didn’t know anyone was recording his tirade, he doesn’t regret anything he said to the teacher. He became more serious about education after he dropped out of school for a year, Bliss said.

“I want to see a teacher stand up and interact with the students, get involved, discuss, talk, question and dig deep into the subject,” the sophomore said in the interview.

According to Fox4, the Duncanville Independent School District released a statement regarding the incident, which read: “We want our students and teachers to be engaged, but the method by which the student expressed his concern could have been handled in a more appropriate way.”
