Former President George W. Bush is officially a grandpa.

His wife and former First Lady Laura W. Bush announced on her official Facebook page Sunday that their daughter Jenna Bush Hager, 31, and her husband, Henry Hager, 34, had their first child.

Margaret Laura “Mila” Hager was born Saturday night in New York City, weighing 6 lb., 15 oz.

“We met our beautiful granddaughter today,” said Laura Bush. “Jenna and Mila are healthy. And our family is elated."

The former president announced in a statement that the child was named after her grandmother.

Bush announced her pregnancy on the “Today” show in December.

“We’re so excited and obviously nervous about it. I’m a first time mom. It’s something that I’ve always wanted. I’m a teacher and I love kids,” she said.

The former president told Us Weekly that he was excited about the prospect of becoming a grandparent.

“I’m fired up,” he said.

“I’m a little disappointed it hasn’t happened yet," he told AARP magazine in 2010. "But the most disappointment I show, the less likely it is things are going to happen on the time table I want."

The new parents were married in Bush’s home state of Texas in 2008.

Hager works as a NBC News correspondent and is editor-at-large for the lifestyle magazine Southern Living. Bush is the twin sister of Barbara Pierce Bush.
