Fans of the long-running Showtime crime series “Dexter” were saddened to hear when the show’s stars, Jennifer Carpenter and Michael C. Hall, amicably called their three-year marriage quits in 2010. But a new report says it wasn't long before Carpenter had a new flame: married singer Seth Avett.

RadarOnline reported Tuesday that Carpenter, 33, has been linked to the 32-year-old folk-rock singer since 2011, despite his married status. (Avett and wife Susan wed in 2008.) An unidentified member of The Avett Brothers band reportedly revealed the duo’s secret relationship, saying, “Shortly after Jennifer’s split with Michael, she began seeing Seth.” The source also claimed the 33-year-old actress would “fly all over” to attend the musician's concerts.

The source claimed that the secret romance has been especially difficult for Avett’s wife and a source of contention among band members. "No one saw this affair coming from those closest to Seth. The affair was really hard on Susan and even the band… They didn’t agree with it whatsoever and were uncomfortable with the situation.”

Avett reportedly left his wife last winter to be with the “Dexter” star, the singer confirming the report on his band’s website this week stating, “My wife and I have decided to end our marriage. We have been separate for some time.”

Avett is reportedly no longer performing his single “January Wedding,” which was written for his wife. The Avett Brothers' most recent album is called “The Carpenter.”

The final season of “Dexter” premieres on Showtime on June 30 at 9 p.m. ET. The show stars Carpenter as a loudmouth detective and sister of Hall’s character, serial killer and blood-splatter analyst Dexter Morgan.
