The Internet’s new favorite meme is the mug shot of Jeremy Meeks, the man whose Stockton, California police booking photo went viral, but while the masses are rejoicing his wife is reportedly “furious” about the attention.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if you don’t see her at all in the cameras, because she’s upset,” Simone Johnson, a friend of Meeks' wife, told KOVR, Sacramento. “She’s furious. Her man is in there and people are taking it as a joke, thinking it’s funny talking about his looks, saying all kinds of crazy things.”

Indeed, Meeks certainly has inspired people to say “crazy things.” The Stockton Police Department’s Facebook page soon went viral, garnering nearly 50,000 “likes,” 14,700 comments and more than 5,400 shares by that Friday morning, the Los Angeles Times revealed. By Sunday, the photo attained nearly 100,000 “likes,” more than 25,000 comments and more than 12,300 shares.

Even though a majority of people say they think Meeks is a “hottie” with a “gorgeous” face, a spokesman for the Stockton Police Department described Meeks as “one of the most violent criminals in the Stockton area.”

Meeks has spoken out since his Internet fame, and he wants everyone to know he’s a changed man.

“I appreciate that. But I just want them to know that this is really not me. I’m not some kingpin,” he told a KXTV, Sacramento, reporter.

Meeks is a convicted felon who spent two years behind bars in 2002 for grand theft auto. He was charged last Friday with illegally possessing a firearm, other gun- and gang-related charges and violating parole.
