Earlier today, the estimable Beth Gaston Moon rounded up the latest traffic numbers from the airline sector including Continental Airlines (CAL), Delta Air Lines (DAL), and American Airlines parent AMR Corp. (AMR), among others. Well, now we can add JetBlue Airways data into the mix the airline reported that September traffic rose 11.8% to 1.84 billion revenue passenger miles, compared to 1.64 billion in the year-ago period. Capacity increased 13.7% on a year-over-year basis, though load factor slipped to 71.4% from 72.6% last year.
With the close looming just minutes away, JBLU is set to close on a loss of more than 5%. In fact, most of its sector components have slipped into the red, too. The notable exceptions are AMR and Alaska Air Group (ALK), which are both poised to finish the day in positive territory. The AMEX Airline Index is fractionally lower today, but is clinging onto newfound support from the 46 level.
