Jim Carrey is "deeply saddened" by the suicide of his ex-girlfriend Cathriona White. The 53-year-old actor released a statement following the news that she was found dead Monday.

According to Entertainment Tonight, Carrey said he was "shocked" to hear the news and called her his "sweet Cathriona."

"She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled," Carrey told ET in a statement. "My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt."

TMZ reported that White, 30, left a suicide note mentioning Carrey. The note reportedly stated that the couple ended their relationship last Thursday, Sept. 24. Law enforcement officials told TMZ they believe White died from an overdose of drugs after pills were found next to her body.

White and Carrey first got together in 2012 and dated on and off. The couple got back together in May of this year and were spotted holding hands in New York City.
