The house band on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday introduced U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann with walk-on music entitled Lyin' A-s B---h by Fishbone, leading one lawmaker to say such actions are insulting and inappropriate.

U.S. Rep. Nita Lowery has said the song was sexist and that host Jimmy Fallon, his band, The Roots, and NBC should apologize for the incident.

I do not share Michele Bachmann's politics, but she deserves to be treated with respect, Lowey said. No female politician -- and no woman -- should be subjected to sexist and offensive innuendo like she was last night.

The drummer for the band issued a statement on Tuesday, somewhat apologizing for the song.

The performance was a tongue-in-cheek and spur of the moment decision, Ahmir Questlove Thompson said in a statement. The show was not aware of it and I feel bad if her feelings were hurt. That was not my intention.

Bachmann is a congresswoman and GOP presidential contender.

She went on Fallon's show on Monday and as she walked across the stage to sit next to the host, the band began playing the refrain from the song.

The song's lyrics refer to a woman as a sl-t trash can b---h. However, the audience only heard a la, la, la. The message was clear and it wasn't the host who was providing political snark.

ABC reported that Thompson is a known supporter of U.S. President Barack Obama. Thompson has also contributed to Obama's campaign, according to ABC, noting that his Twitter account has a photograph of the drummer with the president.

Prior to the show, Questlove clued viewers in on the song choice via Twitter by writing, aight late night walkon song devotees: you love it when we snark: this next one takes the cake. ask around cause i aint tweeting title.

The drummer then wrote, take a guess. buy the record anyway. its classic and should be in your vocabulary.

Though Fallon hasn't spoken to the media directly, the host tweeted on Tuesday afternoon @Questlove is grounded.
