JK Rowling Admits Hermione Granger Should Have Ended Up With Harry Potter And Not Ron Weasley In The ‘Harry Potter’ Series

J.K. Rowling has admitted that she made a mistake by pairing Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter novels.

The author said, in a recent interview for the upcoming issue of Wonderland Magazine, which was guest-edited by Emma Watson, who played Hermione in the movies based on the books, that she should have paired Hermione with her franchise hero, Harry Potter, instead of Ron Weasley, who makes up the trio.

“I wrote Hermione/Ron relationship as a form of wish fulfilment,” Rowling reportedly said in the interview, excerpts of which were published by The Sunday Times. “That’s how it was conceived, really. For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined, Hermione ended up with Ron.”

Rowling reportedly accepted that the decision of not pairing Hermione and Harry at the end would upset many “Harry Potter” fans.

She offered an apology saying that she was sorry, adding that: “I can hear the rage and fury it might cause some fans, but if I’m absolutely honest, distance has given me perspective on that. It was a choice I made for very personal reasons, not for reasons of credibility. Am I breaking people’s hearts by saying this? I hope not.”

According to reports, Watson wasn’t shocked by the revelation, as she told Rowling: “I think there are fans out there who know that too and who wonder whether Ron would have really been able to make her happy.”

The seventh and final part of the Harry Potter book series, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” which was published in July 2007 broke records as the fastest-selling book ever and sold 15 million copies worldwide in the first 24 hours. The Harry Potter books have reportedly sold 350 million copies worldwide and have been translated into almost 65 languages.
