Joaquin Phoenix, 34, the star of 'Gladiator' and 'Signs', not only shocked fans by announcing his retirement from acting in October, he further surprised them with his rap debut on his music career.

Phoenix performed three rap songs from his album, as his first public appearance at LAVO, a Vegas nightclub, on Friday night. The reactions seemed to be positive and the performance was enjoyed.

He said, 'When I was young, I liked punk rock music, but then I discovered rap. I love the storytelling aspect of hip hop.
