RTTNews - The U.S. Labor Department revealed Thursday that initial jobless claims slipped to 570,000 for the week ended August 22. This compared to a revised total of 580,000 in the previous week.

Economists had expected jobless claims to come in at 565,000.

Continuing claims, which measures the number of people receiving ongoing unemployment help, fell to 6.133 million for the week ended August 15, the most recent week for which the government has data.
