The U.S. Department of Labor said today that initial jobless claims rose in the week ended April 14 to 386 thousand, up from 380 thousand the week ago - upwardly revised to 388 thousand - exceeding analysts' medain estimates of 370 thousand.

Continuing claims rose as well in the week ended April 7 to 3,297 thousand from 3,251 thousand - upwardly revised to 3,271 thousand - but down from the market consensus of 3,300 thousand. The four-week moving average rose nearly by 8 thousand to 374,750 from 369,250.
