A new ad from House Speaker John Boehner’s opponent in Ohio's Republican primary wants you all to know that Boehner's name is very similar to a dirty word.

John Boehner’s name, you see, if mispronounced, sounds like “boner,” a euphemism for an erection. That’s it. That’s the joke. Now that Republican challenger J.D. Winteregg has noticed this elusive fact, he wants you to vote for him over Boehner in the Republican primary May 6.

Winteregg, who describes himself as an iconoclastic conservative Republican who will not work with President Barack Obama, has the backing of the Tea Party Leadership Fund PAC in his daunting bid to unseat the speaker. He created “When the Moment is Right,” a minute-long ad accusing Boehner of giving Ohio’s 8th Congressional District “electile dysfunction” in a long-dated style similar to ads for Viagra and other such male performance drugs.

“Electile dysfunction could be a question of blood flow. Sometimes when a politician has been in D.C. too long, it goes to his head and he just can’t seem to get the job done,” a voice says over footage of Boehner shaking hands with Obama.

“Other signs of electile dysfunction may include extreme skin discoloration, the inability to punch one’s self out of a wet paper bag or maintain a spine in the face of liberal opposition, smoking and golf,” the voiceover continues before launching into the incredibly mature barb, “If you have a Boehner lasting more than 23 years, seek immediate medical attention.”

The ad then goes on to prescribe Winteregg as the metaphorical Viagra to Ohio’s 8th District’s most pressing problem.

“When using Winteregg, it’s important to note that the borders will be secured, Second Amendment rights protected, Obamacare and Planned Parenthood will be defunded, and common sense will be used in solving the nation’s problems,” the voiceover assures viewers.

For his own part, Boehner seems unfazed by the ad. The speaker’s camp has not issued a response, but Boehner is set to drop some $61,000 on TV ads, presumably far more than Winteregg spent on his Viagra parody. And as for the Boehner / Boner joke, Boehner has already made the same joke himself. What’s there left to say?
