More promotional photos of Johnny Depp portraying vampire Barnabas Collins in the upcoming Tim Burton film Dark Shadows have emerged online, with character portraits and behind-the-scenes pictures of the entire cast.

The photos come with just about two months left until the film is released in theatres on May 11, 2012. So far, Warner Bros. has not released a trailer for Dark Shadows, nor has there been much buzz about it in Hollywood. However, the new photos give a gleaming hope for 1960's horror soap opera Dark Shadows fans, as the images depict Johnny Depp in full Barnabas vampire costume in the upcoming issue of Vanity Fair.

Depp is seen in the photos with his hands, fully equipped with long, pointy vampire fingernails, crossed at his chest. Costume designer Colleen Atwood paid homage to Jonathan Frid, the original vampire Barnabas Collins in the Dark Shadows series which ran between 1966 and 1971 on ABC. Depp wears the infamous ring and medallion worn by Frid as Barnabas as well as the pale makeup, medallion, collar and cloak.

The photos of Depp have not yet been posted on Vanity Fair's Web site, but have been leaked on Slash Film, including portraits of the rest of the cast in full costume including Michelle Pfeiffer as Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, Eva Green as Angelique Bouchard and Helena Bonham Carter as Dr. Julia Hoffman, all of which strikingly resemble the original cast members.

Other photos in the bundle show Tim Burton and Johnny Depp posing with members of the original cast, who will appear in the movie as well. One photo depicts Depp and Burton with Jonathan Frid, Kathryn Leigh Scott, Lara Parker, David Selby and Lee Miller on the set behind-the-scenes. Frid, Selby and Leigh Scott are also seen in a separate photo with Alice Cooper, who will also make a cameo in the movie.

So far there is no word on when a trailer for Dark Shadows will come out, as Tim Burton seems focused on promoting Frankenweenie, with a trailer released on March 1st, though the film is not due to hit theaters until Oct. 5.

The upcoming Dark Shadows movie seems promising with a script by Seth Grahame-Smith, adapting the classic gothic soap opera created by Dan Curtis which has its place in history as a 1960's cult classic. The plot is centered around the Collins family and their various run-ins with the supernatural, werewolves, witches and vampires and Barnabas Collins, a man turned vampire thanks to a vindictive witch Angelique Bouchard, originally played by Lara Parker.

The official film synopsis from Warner Bros. Pictures reads:

In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England, to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet -- or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy ... until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive.

Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles.
