Johnny Kemp was found dead in Jamaica early Thursday morning, local police said Friday. The 55-year-old Bahamian-born R&B singer’s body was reportedly found floating off a beach in Montego Bay.

Authorities reportedly said that Kemp was scheduled to perform at the Tom Joyner Foundation Fantastic Voyage Cruise, according to the Bahamas Weekly. Police are reportedly trying to find the cause of the death. Kemp is survived by his wife and two sons.

"We have received confirmation that Johnny Kemp has passed away. We do not have any other details. We can confirm he was not on the ship for the Tom Joyner Foundation Fantastic Voyage Cruise," cruise organizer Reach Media told magazine The Root on Friday.

Kemp reportedly started his singing career at the age of 13 and had performed at several nightclubs in Bahamas before moving to New York in 1979. He reportedly became popular the following year with his tracks "Just Got Paid" and "Dancin' with Myself.”
