Jon Bon Jovi is not dead. His band Bon Jovi posted a photo of Bon Jovi on Facebook with the following caption:

Heaven looks a lot like New Jersey -jbj. Rest assured that Jon is alive and well! This photo was just taken.

Even before this photo was posted, Jon Bon Jovi's rep told CNN that the singer and philanthropist was alive, well and doing another charity event tonight.

However, before these assurances, rumors of Jon Bon Jovi's death set Twitter and Facebook ablaze with chatter.

Bon Jovi even became a trending topic on Twitter.

The uproar was sparked by a bogus press release hosted on dailynewbloginternational. The document claimed the singer died of a heart attack in New Jersey.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the press release was largely copied from an LA Times story in 2009 about the death of Michael Jackson.

The story had changed some words and details...But some of the sentences appeared to have been copied, reported the LA Times.

So glad to see you are alive and well!! Merry Christmas! wrote a user on Bon Jovi's Facebook page.

Thank God Everything is awesome with you and yours. Hope the person who started the rumor gets totally scr---d over!! Rock on to the best band in the world!! I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!! wrote another user.

Indeed, despite the questionable image of the Web site and poor construction of the bogus press release, many Bon Jovi fans were worried yesterday.

Is Jon Bon Jovi dead? Don't play around. That's my boy, tweeted @THediting1 yesterday.
