Conseco's fiancée, Leila Knight, told TMZ that he was at the kitchen table in their home cleaning the firearm when it went off. She said he didn't know it was loaded. The type of handgun was not revealed.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said they received a medical call of an accidental shooting at 3 p.m., the New York Daily News reported. Authorities apparently wouldn't release the name of the victim at the time, but a neighbor confirmed it was Canseco in a Twitter post, KLAS wrote.
Canseco, 50, is currently in surgery, Knight told TMZ. According to reports, the bullet tore through the bottom part of the finger.
Canseco is a six-time all-star and hit 462 home runs in a 17-year MLB career. He earned the title of reality star after appearing on “The Surreal Life” in 2003 and “The Apprentice” in 2004.
Further details were not provided and the story is still developing. Even though not much is known, netizens had plenty to say about the accident on Twitter.
