Justin Bieber arrived at the 2011 Much Music Video Awards, held in Toronto on June 19, 2011, thousands of shrieking frenzied teen fans lining the show's red carpet bursted out in shock and excitement as he arrived clad in a pink blazer, white graphic T-shirt and jeans, a pink scarf hanging from his back pocket. Bieber's appearance was reportedly unscheduled for the show.

The 2011 Much Music Video Awards, that took place Sunday in downtown Toronto was hosted by Bieber's rumoured girlfriend, Selena Gomez, along with various VJs the evening kicked off with a celebration of Canadian talent, not long after Justin Bieber walked up the stage to accept the award for international video of the year by Canadian for Someone to Love, an honour he shared with Toronto's own rapper Drake for Find your Love.

Selena? Nice to meet you, I'm Justin, Bieber said as he accepted his first award, standing next to a grinning Drake.
You're very beautiful. Maybe we could go out sometime?
I want to say thank you so much to all my fans, you guys are amazing, said Bieber,
I love you Toronto.

The show opened with a performance by the eccentric Lady Gaga, who sang new single The Edge of Glory on an elaborate, multi-tiered set, clad in a studded leather jumper, and a bright coloured turquoise hair.

Thank you, I'm so, so happy, said Gaga, pointing out to the Canadian video co-director, Laurieann Gibson,
Always stick by what you believe in. Always stand by your vision. We did it!

Far East Movement and Down with Webster were one of the early performers of the evening.

Other early winners included Vancouver dance-punk outfit You Say Party, former So You Think You Can Dance contestant Blake McGrath, Toronto rapper JDiggz and hard-edged Toronto rockers Abandon All Ships.

While Bieber managed to steal the red-carpet thunder simply by showing up, the show also featured its typical onset of flashy entrances.

Seven-time MMVA winner Avril Lavigne arrived in a lime-green Chevy Camaro SS amidst fans chanting her name.

A leather-clad Fefe Dobson skillfully manoeuvered a red convertible while she belted out Stuttering, while Far East Movement performed a medley of their club hits that ended with Snoop Dogg emerging from a coffin surrounded by widely dispersed smoke.

Perhaps, the most memorable entrance of the event, Vancouver pop-punk quartet Marianas Trench barrelled down the carpet in clear plastic hamster balls, two members encased in each sphere.

Actor Johnny Galecki, star of Big Bang Theory, also arrived stunned by the chaos that greeted his arrival.

Down With Webster nabbed the award for best pop video and marvelled as they hoisted the trophy.

Still, the focus of the show was squarely on Bieber and his girlfriend, Disney actress Selena Gomez, the teens' budding relationship has been the subject of much tabloid attention.
