Kansas State and Southern Mississippi get the action started in the East Region of the NCAA Tournament as they face off in Pittsburgh.

8th seed Kansas State comes in to the game winning two of their last three games. The Wildcats finished the season 21-10 overall and 10-8 in the Big 12 Conference.

9th seed Southern Mississippi is coming off a loss to Marshall in the Conference USA Tournament. The Golden Eagles went 25-8 on the season and 11-5 in the conference.

Kansas State is led by junior guard Rodney McGruder. He averages 15.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game on the year.

The Golden Eagles have a balanced scoring attack, with sophomore point guard Neil Watson leading them at 12.2 points per game.

Southern Miss is looking for its first ever win in NCAA Tournament history.

The two teams are pretty evenly matched. Neither team started or finished the season in the Top 25. Kansas State is favored by five points at most sportsbooks.

The winner of this match up will likely face the number one seed in the region, Syracuse, on Saturday, for a trip to the Sweet 16.
