Kanye West is opening up about his mentor and friend, Jay Z, skipping his wedding to Kim Kardashian back in May. The rapper has not spoken about it up until now, and people speculated that the two had begun feuding after Jay Z reportedly turned down his request to be the best man.

In the latest issue of GQ, which features West on the cover, the 37-year-old is asked about how he felt about Jay Z and Beyoncé spending the weekend of his wedding ceremony in the Hamptons.

“It doesn’t even matter to me whatsoever, who would show up. Because the most important person to show up there, to me, was Kim. And that’s all that matters to me. I had to fight for that for seven years,” West said.

West is not the first to talk about Jay Z and Beyoncé skipping the lavish wedding, which took place in Italy. In June, Kris Jenner spoke about the situation during a radio interview.

Jenner said their absence “was the last thing on anyone’s mind."

"There was so much commotion and excitement. I never really gave that a second thought,” the 58-year-old matriarch of the Kardashian family said. Jenner said that Jay Z and Beyoncé sent their best wishes to West and Kardashian, and she “just assumed they were working.”

Some reports, however, said the famous couple may have just not been interested. “Jay thinks the entire Kimye wedding is a joke and it's being blown way out of proportion,” a source told website RadarOnline in May.

When Kim Kardashian landed in Paris, several days ahead of the May 24 wedding in Florence, Italy, the paparazzi descended on the reality-TV star, snapping loads of photos. The couple's wedding made headlines around the world.

“[Jay Z] likes Kanye and Kim, but totally talks smack about them behind their backs," the source said. "When he was asked about the wedding, he just laughed and said, ‘The circus goes to Paris!'”
