Presenting the United States of Yeezy! Wait, is Chicago rapper Kanye West really running for president? It’s a question thousands of Americans were contemplating after the husband of reality star Kim Kardashian announced his 2020 presidential bid at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday night. A day after West, 36, made his announcement, a White House official responded.

The White House welcomes the idea and looks "forward to seeing what slogan he chooses to embroider on his campaign hat,” White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said when asked during the daily press briefing aboard Air Force One en route to Alaska if he would be interested in singing up as press secretary for West. It might have been a reference to Donald Trump's "Make America Great Again" caps.

If West is serious about trading rap for politics, it seems the White House has no objections.

Since his proclamation, West was called “Mr. President” during a dinner date with Kardashian at a place where they are regulars, Hollywood Life reported exclusively Monday. “Everyone was aware of what he said at the awards because the paparazzi were outside talking about it before he showed up,” an insider said. “Right off the bat, Kanye walked into the establishment, big broad shoulders with his head and nose tilted high, like he was the president of the United States.”

He reportedly shook hands with the hosts after they said, “Good evening, Mr. President.” The source continued: “The man looked good and he certainly wasn’t afraid to express his feelings.”

West decided to make his big announcement before he took the stage to accept his Video Vanguard award. “He discussed what he was going to hit on with Kim and everyone in that family knows Kanye's political aspirations,” the source said. The rapper has not divulged his party affiliation.

So what does his reality star wife think? Kardashian, 34, supports her husband. “Kim couldn’t have been prouder,” the person added.
