Kim Kardashian has hired a lawyer to fight back against allegations from a former publicist that her short-lived marriage to Kris Humphries was a staged event aimed at generating money and buzz, reports TMZ.

The star of Keeping Up With the Kardashians has hired attorney Marty Singer to sue the publicist, Jonathan Jaxson, who she said could not have known about her nuptial plans because she has not spoken with him in years, the celebrity website reports.

So Kardashian said she will sue Jaxson - who is promoting a book alleging that the wedding, which last 72 days before she filed divorce papers, was a sham from the start - for $200,000 for alleged defamation, TMZ said.

Jaxson said that his experience working with the reality TV star enabled him to get the dirt on the wedding, but a source close to her told TMZ they only worked together once, years ago.

Singer confirmed that version of the story to TMZ:

Everything that he is saying is false and nonsense ... This guy is in it to promote himself for his 15 [minutes] of fame, he said.

But TMZ said Jaxson, who says he has not been served any papers regarding the lawsuit, countered with an online statement giving his own version of events:

I have never signed an agreement dealing with confidentiality with Kim Kardashian. I have an agreement in my possession that does not have either parties signature on it ... When I have been contacted by the press to give comments on the wedding, my opinions have been from my personal point of view based on the statement she posted on her blog and conversations with mutual friends ... I have not worked with Kim in a professional capacity in a couple of years and have absolutely no ill fillings towards her what so ever.

Humprhies hired a lawyer of his own earlier this month for the minimum six-moth-long divorce proceedings.

Humphries hired attorney Lee Hutton III to end his marriage, TMZ reported.
