Sephora recalled a makeup product from its shelves and online store this week after receiving complaints from customers for its offensive (to some) moniker.

According to a report from People, the beauty supply chain has officially removed one lipstick from reality star and tattoo artist Kat Von D’s Painted Love makeup line. The particular item, a “nude peache beige“ shade called “Celebutard" (a hybrid of the words “celebrity” and “retard” to form the slang for “a famous stupid person"), resulted in a slew of complaints from organizations and supporters of the disabled.

“Sephora cosmetics has a funky line of lipsticks under the Kat Von D. name called Painted ink. That's cool. One of the names of a creamy buff color is 'Celebutard.' Definitely not cool, funny or acceptable,” said Age of Autism managing editor Kim Stagliano in a Huffington Post blog. “And as mom of special needs kids - and friend to many people whose children have Down syndrome, I wouldn't put this lipstick on a pig. Tell Kat Von D her lipstick gets an F,” Stagliano later added.

Faith Bodnar of Inclusion BC, a non-profit group the helps those living with developmental disabilities, shared similar sentiments. “It should have never been on the shelves to begin with,” Bodnar told CTV News Wednesday. “It’s degrading and there’s no place for it.”

Sephora, who officially pulled the item from its online store and retail locations this week, has since released a public apology. “It has come to our attention that the name of one shade of lipstick we carry has caused offense to some of our clients and others,” Sephora said in statement, adding, “We are deeply sorry for that.”

Following the discontinuation of her lipstick product, Von D, 31, responded to the controversy on her Twitter account saying, “At the end of the day, it’s just a f**king lipstick.” The message has since been deleted by the former “LA Ink” reality star, according to a report from People magazine Wednesday.
