Kate Middleton cannot live up to her mother-in-law Princess Diana's legacy as the Duchess of Cambridge lacks the "magic quality," the late princess' butler said in an interview with Australia's 9News network Tuesday.

Paul Burrell, 59, who became part of the Royal Service as a teenager, served as a footman for Queen Elizabeth II, and was later appointed as butler to the Princess of Wales. In his latest interview, Burrell spoke about how Middleton, who many think resembles Diana in many ways, will not have the same charming affect on people as she doesn't have the "X-factor."

“She's a lovely, lovely girl ... she totally adores her husband, they're devoted to each other,” Burrell told 9News. “But that extra something, which you would call the ‘X-factor’, it's not there."

“I met Mother Teresa, she had it. Pope John Paul II had it. The Queen has it. Diana certainly had it. Kate doesn't,” he added.

Middleton, who became the Duchess of Cambridge after marrying Prince William in 2011, has often channeled her late mother-in-law's fashion sense. This made many believe the mother of two had it in her to follow in the footsteps of Diana and become the next "people's princess."

Recently, the German media called Middleton the new Princess Diana when the 35-year-old connected with people during her royal visit to Poland last month. Middleton's photograph hugging a young girl was likened to Princess Diana's tendency to bond with ordinary people.

August marks the 20th anniversary of Diana’s death. However, new details about Diana's life surfaced after the release of explosive tapes surrounding her personal life.

Burrell, spoke about the tapes in his interview, calling it an invasion of privacy.

“Some things are meant to private in her world and I still have lots of secrets that I can't tell you because they're between me and her,” he said. “I think anything which happens in the premise of four walls, between two people, is private.”

Last month, Middleton paid homage to Princess Diana during a state banquet honoring Spain's King Felipe and Queen Letizia at Buckingham Palace. Prince William's wife arrived at the event wearing a pale pink and lace Marchesa gown. What stole the show was her Cambridge Lover's Knot Tiara, which belonged to Diana and was believed to one of the princess' favorite pieces of jewelry.

On Monday, photos of Princess Diana's private sanctuary inside Kensington Palace were posted by Daily Mail. The photos are believed to have been taken by Burrell, which he reportedly took after she was killed in a car accident in Paris in Aug. 1997.

"When the Princess died, I felt it was appropriate to record where she had lived, spent much of her married life and brought up as the Princess," he said. "These interiors were chosen by the Princess. This was the place she called home. Shortly after she died, her memory was erased from Kensington Palace."
