Opera Singer Katherine Jenkins, will mute her vocals and put on her dancing shoes as she prepares to compete in America's Dancing with the Stars.

The mezzo-soprano heart throb, who recently spilt from her fiancé Gethin Jones, will appear alongside Gladys Knight, Gavin DeGraw and Martina Navratilova in the 14th season of DWTS.

A spokesman for Jenkins told the BBC that she was extremely excited to be taking part in the show. She has been paired up with U.S. dancer Mark Ballas, and they will first be performing their routines on March 19, with the first elimination set for March. 27

Dr. Simon Warner, a lecturer of popular music at the University of Leeds, told the BBC that Jenkins was going for the Adele factor, by trying to tap into then U.S market.

It (Dancing With The Stars) sounds like perfect platform for a young woman with talent, who is little-known in the United States, to reach the multi-millions who watch Dancing With The Stars, he said.

Jenkins hinted at trying to break the U.S music market in an interview with the Western Mail. I've been going back and fore and chipping away at it, she said.

Jenkins has already appeared on DWTS, but as a singer during Classical Week, in April 2011. According to US Weekly, she has some dance experience after joining ballerina Darcey Bussel on stage in the 2008 musical, Viva la Diva.

Jenkins revealed that the decision to appear on the program came from her desire to conquer one of her fears. I like to conquer my phobia. I was afraid of heights. I got a pilot's license. My biggest fear was to drown, so I got a SCUBA diving license. I get embarrassed dancing by myself, so I figured why not do it in front of millions of people, she said, according to US weekly.
