Rumors started circulating the Internet several weeks ago about Katie Couric leaving CBS Evenings News.

Couric finally made the announcement official.

I have decided to step down from CBS Evening News, Couric told People Magazine. I'm really proud of the talented team on the CBS Evening News and the award-winning work we've been able to do in the past five years in addition to the reporting I've done for 60 Minutes and CBS Sunday Morning. In making the decision to move on, I know the Evening News will be in great hands, but I am excited about the future.

As for what the future holds for Couric, I'm looking at a format that wil allow me to engage in more multi-dimensional storytelling, Couric said.

While Couric's future is yet to be determined she has a busy schedule right ahead. She recently released her new book, The Best Advice I Ever Got: Lessons from Extraordinary Lives, she also has exclusive interviews with astronaut Mark Kelly, husband of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, as well as British Prime Minister David Cameron. She is also covering the Royal Wedding.
