Former model and television presenter Kate Piper, who was partially blinded in an acid attack by her ex-boyfriend, has regained the vision in her left eye after undergoing a stem cell surgery.

Piper of Andover, Hampshire, suffered severe facial burns and damage to her left eye when her ex-boyfriend Daniel Lynch, 35, poured sulphuric acid on her face in 2008.

The 28-year-old had to have her face reconstructed after the brutal attack.

In November 2011, Piper underwent stem cell surgery at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead after tracking down eye specialist Dr. Sheraz Daya.

I couldn't help but think, 'What if he could help me?' I tracked him down at his London office and I had a consultation with him. He told me I was suitable for surgery and I was thrilled, Katie said during an interview with The Sun.

Doctors used stem cell tissue from the cornea of an anonymous donor, which they grew and then fix into Piper's partially blinded left eye, BBC reported.

Piper said that prior to this operation her sight was like being underwater. She underwent 110 operations to treat her left side of the face.

While narrating the whole incident during a documentary, Piper said that despite having 110 operations, she never thought she'd be able to do anything about her eyesight.

Of all my injuries, it's the damage to my left eye that has the most impact, Katie said during her documentary. The hardest part is not being able to see anything on one side. In crowded places, it leaves me feeling scared and vulnerable.
