A 25-year-old bar hand, registered as sex offender, has been questioned twice after North Carolina authorities said that the sex offender was one of the last people to see Kelli Bordeaux alive.

According to police, the 23-year-old soldier was last seen leaving Froggy Bottoms bar in Fayetteville around 1.20 am Saturday.

Nicholas Holbert, the sex offender, told ABC News 11 that he dropped the soldier home from bar, but he also denied having any relation with her disappearance. He said he dropped Bordeaux on her request.

As soon as you drive into the entrance to Meadowbrook, she said stop right here, Holbert said. So I stopped and she said, 'I'll walk home.' I said, 'Are you sure?' She said, 'Yeah.' I said I figured she didn't want me to know where she lived, or somebody was there and she didn't want to be seen together.

An army official told CNN that the soldier had sent a text message got home safely, but he was not sure to whom she sent the message and at what time it was sent.

Bordeaux's husband Mike Bordeaux was in Florida at the time of her disappearance.

There is some information we've gathered that makes us concerned for her safety, Fayetteville police spokesperson Gavin MacRoberts told ABCNews.com Wednesday.

According to ABC 11, Holbert was 16-year-old when he was convicted of having sexual contact with a 5-year-old kid. Holbert believes that he is being targeted by police because of his past criminal record.

On Wednesday, he went through a second round of questioning by police and has been called a person of interest in the case. However, Holbert has not been charged in the case.

The Fort Bragg soldier was reported missing by base officials Monday and police searched the area where her phone was last detected, officials said.

Bordeaux's family said she was very dedicated and serious towards her work and would never miss work.

Being a soldier, to Kelly, isn't something she'd jeopardize for anything, said Bordeaux's elder sister, Olivia Cox. Missing work isn't something that's in character for Kelli. This is an out of character thing to happen to my sister.

However, investigators are now searching a pond off Dobbin Holmes Road in Fayetteville.

Bordeaux and her husband, who was in Florida when she went missing, have been married for two years, according to Cox.

Both Cox and Bordeaux last communicated Friday.

I texted her. And we laughed and joked and everything was happy, said Cox.
