The 139th annual running of the Kentucky Derby is just around the corner.

On Saturday, May 4, 20 jockeys and three-year-old thoroughbreds will compete in the first leg of the Triple Crown.

With 7/2 betting odds, Orb has been named the favorite to win the 2013 Derby. At the No.16 post, the horse is led by trainer Shug McGaughey and jockey Joel Rosario. Only four horses have been victorious from that position, though Animal Kingdom won the race at No.16 just two years ago.

Orb’s four-race winning streak makes him the slight favorite over Verrazano. The horse that drew the No.14 position enters the race undefeated.

Besides Verrazano, trainer Todd Pletcher will have four other horses running at Churchill Downs, tying a Derby record. Pletcher also trains Revolutionary, who has the fourth best odds at 10/1.

Doug O’Neill trained last year’s winner, I’ll Have Another. In 2013, he has a good chance to be a on the winning side, once again. He trains Goldencents, whose odds have been set at 5/1.

Four Horses are tied for the worst odds at 50/1. Black Onyx, who drew the No.1 post position, leads the group of longshots.
