American socialite Kim Kardashian has filed for divorce from her husband Kris Humphries, looking to end their 72-day marriage.

In her official statement to E! News Kardashian said: After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage. I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don't work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best.

Irreconcilable differences are being cited as the reason for the divorce. The couple was married on Aug. 20, in a multi-million dollar ceremony that, according to estimates, cost around $20 million.

TMZ reported that Humphries wanted Kardashian to settle in his Minnesotta hometown but Kardashian wanted to stay in California near her family. There were further reports that when Humphries was visiting his family in Minnesota, Kardashian went out to meet and have lunch with her ex-boyfriend and NFL star Reggie Bush. Other sources say that Kim does not have enough time to spend on the marriage due to her busy schedule.

Kardashian had earlier married music producer Damon Thomas in 2000 and their marriage ended in 2004. She was also reportedly dating singer Ray J and Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin, at one point in time. She began dating Humphries, a NBA player, in October 2010.

Humphries is said to be devastated by Kardashian's decision to file for divorce.

I'm committed to this marriage and everything this covenant represents, Humphries told Us Weekly in a statement.

I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce, he added, I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make it work.
