“Keeping Up with the Kardashians” star Kim Kardashian and her husband Kanye West touched down in the Caribbean this week for an early birthday celebration. The couple brought their kids and family friends with them for the weekend getaway celebrating West’s upcoming 40th birthday on June 8.

An exclusive from E! News, which is part of the same network that airs “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” broke the news Friday. According to an unnamed source, the couple rented out a “huge” luxury villa for the trip. The source added, “They have had cases of Casamigos flown in and are drinking by their private pool. The kids all have their own play area and they all look like they are having a great time.”

Apparently, the trip was Kanye’s design. A separate source told E! News, “Kanye wanted to plan this vacation for their family as it's been awhile since they have taken a vacation together as a whole. Kim really needed time to relax and wants to spend quality time with Kanye and he is going out of his way to make it special.”

Earlier Friday, Kardashian shared a heartfelt letter on her app for National Gun Violence Awareness Day and wrote about her work with nonprofit Everytown for Gun Safety. The reality star called for better gun safety legislation and slammed President Donald Trump’s decision to repeal an Obama-era rule that aimed to block the sale of guns to certain mentally ill people.

“In almost 20 years, our country has made very little progress in enacting laws that would help protect innocent Americans from people who should not have access to firearms,” she said. “Right now, there are more guns owned by civilians in this country than in any other country in the world. In February of this year, President Trump actually signed a bill revoking a regulation recommended by President Obama that would have added 75,000 names of people with registered mental illnesses to a national background check database. This is crazy!”

Herself a survivor of gun violence, the 36-year-old addressed the Oct. 3, 2016 robbery in her Paris apartment in the statement.

“I’m not against guns and I’m not against people owning guns,” Kardashian wrote. “After what happened to me in Paris, I know how important it is to be safe and to have armed security. All of my security team is armed, but they also support stricter gun control laws and believe that we should restrict access to firearms for people with mental illness, anyone previously convicted of a misdemeanor, those who have been subject to a temporary restraining order and those at a higher risk of committing gun violence.”
