Kim Kardashian found herself at the center of yet another controversy after she shared images of herself dressed as late R&B singer Aaliyah for Halloween. After fans slammed the 37-year-old reality star for dressing as a black woman, Kim Kardashian apologized on her website but added that “we don’t see color in my home” — which only stirred more backlash.

“When I was deciding what I wanted to be for Halloween this year, I had a lot of ideas that I narrowed down to musical icons and my second costume was Aaliyah,” Kim Kardashian wrote on her website. The star went on to write that the costume was inspired by Aaliyah’s “Try Again” music video.

Citing that her 1-year-old son Saint West dressed up as Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose this year and that her sister Kourtney Kardashian dressed as Michael Jackson, Kim Kardashian said: “We don’t see color in my home. We were paying homage to people and artists we love and respect — it’s that simple!”

A number of social media users wrote that while an apology for the costume may have been unnecessary, her comments about colorblindness crossed a line.

“Aaliyah was such an amazing singer and she will forever be a music legend. I saw online that some people thought my costume was in poor taste and I am truly sorry if that offended anyone,” Kim Kardashian wrote of the costume. “When I was creating the costume, I wasn’t dressing up as a race or culture but rather as a woman whom I will always admire. I play every kind of genre of music in my home and I like for my kids to be exposed to many different artists.”

The star also dressed as Cher, Madonna and Selena Quintanilla.
